Pub in Twickenham, in the Good Beer Guide.

Tucked away on a quiet backstreet next to the river, this is a lovely place to spend a weekday summer afternoon (though it does get very crowded on weekends and rugby days).

The interior is divided into a number of different areas, making the already cosy space even cosier photo. The walls are painted a calming pale green, the floorboards are exposed, and a dark-wood sideboard holds books and a few board games. Old photos, drawings, and maps on the wall show the area in the past.

A patio overlooking the river has seating for about 20, and a pile of blankets inside near the door offers protection for when the weather gets colder. There's also a riverside patio. A board on the pavement warns that the road can flood, and one should phone the pub to be let in via the cellar door at the side if this happens.

Kake visited on a Wednesday morning in September 2015. I was the only customer when I arrived around 11:15am, but a couple of others turned up shortly after. Music was playing (Bobby McFerrin, Smash Mouth, The Who), not too loud.

Four of the five handpumps were on, offering Binghams Australian Summer, Fuller's London Pride, Brains The Rev James, and Sharp's Doom Bar. A pint of lime and soda was £1.20.

Free WiFi is available, with no password and no need to register.

According to their website as of August 2015, food is served noon-3pm and 6pm-9pm Mon-Fri, noon-9pm Sat, and noon-6pm Sun.

Child-friendliness: There's a pull-down nappy change table in the ladies' (gents' not checked).

Accessibility: A dozen steps with handrail to get in. The toilets are down a flight of stairs with a sturdy handrail on one side.
