Pub near Waddon Station.

Although the interior has been opened out into one big space, a small stained-glass privacy screen next to the bar marks a likely previous division into bar and saloon. To one side of this are a small sofa and some half-round armchairs, while to the other is more seating and a couple of pool tables, one of them in its own little room up a few steps with tall banquette seating for spectators.

Red-striped claw-foot barstools line the bar, and the walls are painted orange above and panelled with brown-painted wood below. Old photos of the area are hung here and there. The floor is wood, with somewhat ugly patterned carpeting inset here and there. Various TVs and flatscreens adorn the walls, and there's also a projector and large pulldown screen.

When Kake and Ewan visited on a Tuesday afternoon in August 2011, there were three or four other customers in, and no music was playing. The TVs were all off, and the pulldown projection screen was furled. Service was friendly enough. Two real ales were available: Hop Back Summer Lightning (£2.60/pint), and Bass. The Summer Lightning was a bit cloudy, and possibly had a touch of sourness, but it certainly wasn't undrinkable. A pint of lime and soda was £1.

Kake visited again on a Thursday evening in November 2015. There were about half a dozen other customers in when I arrived around 4:45pm. The TV was on quietly, and there was a lively conversation going on around the bar. People continued to arrive over the next hour, and although it never exactly got busy, it certainly didn't feel too quiet. Service was friendly. There were two real ales on: Caledonian Dark Crystal (£3/pint) and Old Speckled Hen. A pint of lime and soda was £2.

Kake's verdict: A perfectly fine option for a drink if you're in the area.

Accessibility: Step-free access to the bar, most of the seating, the beer garden, one of the pool tables, and the accessible toilet. Steps to the ladies' toilet, and to the other pool table. There's a car park attached to the pub with one priority parking space.
