Young's pub in Brixton, in the Good Beer Guide (and a Fancyapint award winner).

Food served weekday lunchtimes 12-3pm and evenings (DrHyde didn't check exactly what times), and from 1-5pm on Sundays. Young's Bitter, Special (£1.35/half), and Waggledance. Also Staropramen, if that's anything special.

Kake visited on a Friday lunchtime and it was pretty empty. Nobody else there except three old men (not together). Music was very easy-listening but not loud. Oh, it turns out that the music is radio - Magic's Maximum Music Hour, whatever that is. Mid-week evenings it fills up, but is still not crowded or noisy.

Very much an old man's pub, I think, but in a good way. It's tucked away off the main roads in a little residential square, so I would guess everyone who comes here meant to come here.

Signs on the front indicate a private bar and a saloon bar but it's one room inside (photo). Notices say no children in the bar at any time; and no children on the premises at all after 7:30pm.

There are benches and tables out the front, and a beer garden (which I didn't examine) out the back.

Recommended venue for meeting up for a civilised pint or three and some nosh before heading off to see RAWK at the Brixton Academy.

Comment added by Bob: Special 2.85. Tribute, bomardier and ordinary were all on. All 3 entrances have 1 step. Toliets seem to be on the same level. Mains 6 to 7 pounds.

Comment added by bob: Tribute 2.90 mccoys 70p
