Pub on Haverstock Hill between Chalk Farm and Belsize Park stations.

It underwent a substantial refurb in 2018, and is now quite different from the way it was before (see older version of this page for a pre-refurb description).

The painted ceiling mural has been retained, but the curios and paraphernalia of its pre-refurb life have been swept away to produce a totally new and notably uncluttered look. There's a generous amount of standing space around the bar, though no bar stools — all the seating is around the edge of the room, a combination of banquettes, low stools, upright chairs, and high stools at high tables. Along with the high ceiling and large leaded windows on two sides (part clear, part dimpled glass), this makes the place seem much more spacious than it was before photo.

Around the back of the bar are a couple of cosier spaces, one of which has a backlit stained glass depiction of Sir Richard himself. A doorway leads from here through to a dining room which didn't seem to be in use on our visit, except for storage of a few boxes.

Kake visited on a Tuesday afternoon in September 2018. There were just two other customers when I arrived a little before 2:30pm. Music was playing, not too loud. The handpumps were clipped for Sharp's Doom Bar, Portobello Star, and Adnams Southwold Bitter. A pint of lime and soda was £2.

Accessibility: A fairly high ridge at the threshold, but flatter access at the side door (although this is accessed via the beer garden and there's a lockable gate between there and the street). Once you're in, there's no steps to the bar, seating, or accessible toilet.
