Wetherspoons pub in Selsdon. It has an unusual-for-Wetherspoons split-level design. Entry is into the lower level, where tall stools cluster around tall tables and the bar runs along one side. Further back is a small conservatory-style area with upholstered half-round armchairs, while up steps to the side is a sort of mezzanine/dais area with the bulk of the seating, all normal-height chairs and tables. Aside from the obligatory patterned carpet, decor is generally in shades of brown and cream. A rather sixties-looking false ceiling insert meanders in gentle curves overhead, echoed by large round pillars on either side of the steps to the mezzanine. Kake and friend visited on a Thursday morning in September 2019. There were around two dozen other customers when we arrived a little before 11am. No music was playing, as is usual for Wetherspoons, but there was a good buzz of conversation. The handpumps were clipped for Stonehenge Danish Dynamite, Wolf Granny Wouldn't Like It, Reunion Engage, Wickwar Bob, Sharp's Doom Bar, Abbot Ale, and Greene King IPA (all priced between £1.69/pint and £2.29/pint), as well as two real ciders: Gwynt Y Ddraig Black Dragon (£2.79/pint) and Westons Old Rosie (£3.25/pint). A cup of tea with unlimited self-service refills was £1.30. Child-friendliness: As with most Wetherspoonses, children are welcome during the day. They have at least one highchair (the type with no tray and very little back support), and there was a baby present on our visit. Accessibility: No steps to get in, and there's a RADAR-locked accessible toilet on the level. However, most of the seating on this level is on high stools at high tables; there are just a few normal-height half-round armchairs in the conservatory area at the back. The main part of the seating is up steps (with handrail), and access to the garden is down a flight of stairs.
