A large Wetherspoon's pub by Holborn Station.

The virtues of this pub, as with many in this chain, are its size and convenience to the station. There's nothing particularly bad or unusual about the Shakespeare's Head, and it has the virtue of getting a little more natural light (at least up the back of the pub) than the nearby Penderel's Oak.

There's a mixture of large and small tables stretching back into the carpeted recesses of the building, where capacious booths and dining areas can be found.

There are around eight handpulls on the bar, with a good, ever-changing selection of ales (and a cider on Ewan's visit) at competitive prices, as well as a good range of wines and spirits. Service is perfectly friendly and efficient.

Ewan's verdict: Those who know what to expect from the chain will find nothing in particular to fault with this Wetherspoon's.
