[[Kake]]'s tuna tartare starter (£9.25) was fine, though it better had be at that price. The bread (£2.50/basket) was also very good — a proper sourdough. Unfortunately it went downhill a bit from there. My main course of potato gnocchi with scallops and walnut sauce (£14) was almost entirely devoid of scallop — three or four thin slices, plus one coral. I would be surprised if there was more than one scallop involved in this dish, and shocked if there was more than two. The gnocchi were perfectly fine, but if you can't afford to put more than one scallop in the dish, then either hike the price or take the scallop out entirely and advertise the dish as what it is — gnocchi with walnut sauce. Finally, my tiramisu (£6.30) was quite dull, and if there was any alcohol in it at all, it was doing a very good job of hiding.

[[Dean]] started with the smoked salmon (£9), which was very nice. My main course of cacciucco (fish stew; £20) was OK if a little bit light on the actual nice fish, but my chocolate pudding (£6.30) was dull, dry and expensive. The meal seemed to descend in quality as I moved through the courses.
Dean seemed mostly happy with his smoked salmon starter (£9) and his main course of cacciucco (fish stew; £20), but said his chocolate pudding (£6.30) was boring.

Italian restaurant on Charlotte Street in Fitzrovia, specialising in fish and seafood dishes.

Kake, Bob, and Dean visited on a Tuesday evening in March 2008; we hadn't booked, but there was no problem finding us a table.

Kake's tuna tartare starter (£9.25) was fine, though it better had be at that price. The bread (£2.50/basket) was also very good - a proper sourdough. Unfortunately it went downhill a bit from there. My main course of potato gnocchi with scallops and walnut sauce (£14) was almost entirely devoid of scallop - three or four thin slices, plus one coral. I would be surprised if there was more than one scallop involved in this dish, and shocked if there was more than two. The gnocchi were perfectly fine, but if you can't afford to put more than one scallop in the dish, then either hike the price or take the scallop out entirely and advertise the dish as what it is - gnocchi with walnut sauce. Finally, my tiramisu (£6.30) was quite dull, and if there was any alcohol in it at all, it was doing a very good job of hiding.

Dean seemed mostly happy with his smoked salmon starter (£9) and his main course of cacciucco (fish stew; £20), but said his chocolate pudding (£6.30) was boring.

Service was OK, though there was a slight tendency to hover. They had no problem bringing us a jug of tap water, with ice and lemon too.

Kake's verdict: Might come back if someone else insisted. Might make them pay though.
