Randomness Guide to London - Differences between Version 12 and Version 11 of One And One, N1 9LQ

Version 12 Version 11

As well as a very limited range of the vegetarian buffet they previously had, they now serve meat & seafood. This was mixed in with the vegetarian dishes, so cross contamination inevitable, as well as being repulsive (whole prawns bobbing around next to the vegetarian noodles). There were also no separate preparation areas or cooking facilities for meat (which was left on the counter in full view) and vegetarian products.

Add to this the hike in price (£8.95 buffet at weekends), really poor quality food, and lack of heating (was colder inside than out in the snow, despite asking to put the heating up), this was a dire experience never to be repeated. Avoid at all costs. Many better options nearby for veggies and meat eaters!

Chinese-style buffet restaurant directly opposite Angel Station in Islington.

Previously entirely vegan, as of early 2012 Vegetarian London Updates reports that they've now started serving meat. The comments below predate this change, and we don't know if the place is still vegetarian/vegan friendly.

It's extremely cheap; as of December 2008, the buffet was £5.50 at lunchtime, £6.50 in the evening and on Sundays, and £3.50 for takeaway.

On elvum's April 2008 visit, there was a good selection of hot and cold food, the former being mostly vegan versions of well-known Chinese restaurant dishes (eg sweet and sour "pork", "duck" pancakes, "beef" in black bean sauce, etc). Drinks (all around £1.50) were tea or fruit-juice oriented, but no alcohol. There was no problem getting a table on a Wednesday evening. The 10% service charge was perhaps a little surprising for a buffet restaurant.

Toilets (reasonably clean) were down steep stairs at the back. Decor was an interesting mixture of "antique" tables and mirrors and rustic jungle furniture. Overall, it wins on price, veganness (if that matters to you) and proximity to the tube station, but is only average in most other respects.

(Note that Indian Veg Bhelpoori House, N1 9EX is just around the corner, almost entirely vegan, and even cheaper.)

This place used to be called "Tai" or "Tai Buffet", then changed its name to "Veg" photo, and as of March 2011 it's called "AOne". It also used to be at 13 Islington High Street (see photo of the old location), but is now a couple of doors down at number 11.

Last visited by elvum, 17 April 2008. Opening hours and prices taken from signs outside, December 2008.
