A friendly restaurant in Brixton offering authentic Portuguese cuisine, often in huge portions at low prices.

This place doesn't look like much from the outside but it is well worth a visit. The decor is plain but the food is authentic Portuguese fare served in huge portions at low prices. The typical price of a main dish is £8, many lunch options at £5 or £6, with beer (Sagres, Superbock) available at £1.70 a bottle.

The menu concentrates on seafood (some of which you can see still moving under the bar counter) and meat (pork and beef). itsbruce recommends the cod cooked in red wine (a particularly huge serving) and the many bacalhau dishes. For lunch, try the Pregos or Bifana (beef or pork steak with onions and a delicious sauce, served in a roll). They also serve freshly backed cakes and pastries as well as some sinful puddings.

This part of Stockwell Road is a mini hub of the local Portuguese community, with a Portuguese bakery next door, a Portuguese cafe almost directly opposite and another a couple of hundred metres up the road towards Stockwell.
