Wetherspoons pub on Penge High Street, in the Good Beer Guide. It's quite big, but has small booths at the side (some of them with books!) for a bit of privacy.
Only been here once, on a Friday afternoon. The usual Wetherspoons daytime drinkers were in evidence, but the atmosphere wasn't unpleasant. Barstaff were very friendly. There are some pubs where I wouldn't feel comfortable going for a drink on my own, but this isn't one of them. --Kake
We came here for the spring 2007 Wetherspoons beer festival; everything we wanted to try was on (although when one ran out they didn't turn the label on the pump round, which was a little confusing), and the barstaff were very patient when asked to pour nine 1/3-pints per round.
Food is the standard Wetherspoons menu, competently prepared. And how can you go wrong with two main meals for six quid? (We both had lasagne, which was excellent for the price.)
The BITE comments linked below suggest that it can get crowded.
