Verdict: overall the food was very good. The service was military and precise. I would recommend that you go for the main menu as opposed to the four courses - although it was very good to experience all those different flavours it felt like it was all over in an instant and you did not feel exactly satisfied at the end.

her_welshness and 2 others visited this place 20 September 2008. The head chef, Jason Atherton, had won chef of the year award and my friend really wanted to visit this place.

We opted for the 4 course menu (priced at a reasonable £28)- although there is a main menu with obviously more selection.

To start with we we had swede honey soup with cep and braised rabbit. This came with hot little bioche type roll with had a root vegetable accompaniment. Very good.

Second course was marinaded foie gras with rhubarb and ginger accompanied by toasted brioche. The foie gras was good but the toasted brioche was too thick and stuck in the throat.

Third course was a side of Casterbridge beef with beetroot and pureed vegetables. The beef was heavenly. The pureed veg was OK, although I though it had the texture of that well known powder-potato product.

Fourth course was the dessert: thin strips of eggy meringue with strawberry ice-cream and thinly sliced strawberries.

Verdict: overall the food was very good. The service was military and precise. I would recommend that you go for the main menu as opposed to the four courses - although it was very good to experience all those different flavours it felt like it was all over in an instant and you did not feel exactly satisfied at the end.
