Wetherspoons pub in Stanmore, in the Good Beer Guide. According to the 2009 Good Beer Guide, they serve Old Rosie as well as real ale.

Kake visited early on a Friday evening in October 2008. I got here a little after 5pm and there were quite a few people already in - groups and couples as well as a couple of examples of the ubiquitous lone male Wetherspoons drinker. No piped music, nice buzz of conversation. By 6pm there were seats free, though perhaps not entire tables, and conversation was very lively but not even approaching rowdy.

There's very little natural light inside, but it doesn't feel gloomy; the booths around the edges have spotlight lighting, and the ceiling in the main part has backlit panels of stained glass depicting the man in the moon himself. The tables, the bar, the glass privacy screens between the booths, all seemed very clean.

They have six handpumps on the front of the bar, which on my visit had Greene King IPA, Marstons Pedigree, Abbot Ale, Rebellion Red (£2.10/pint), O'Hanlons Firefly (£2.10/pint), and Conwy Honey Fayre. Five more round the side of the bar, possibly only for advertising purposes.

Service was friendly and polite. They even brought me cutlery with my panini instead of making me get it myself.

On the strength of this visit, at least, this pub appears to be an example of the ideal Wetherspoons.

Accessibility: Two steps up to get in.
