La Bodeguita was a Latin American restaurant and wine bar in the Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre. It was forced to close in September 2020 due to the impending demolition of the centre, but has since reopened in a new location in the nearby Castle Square development. The information below is retained for historical purposes.
A Latin American restaurant and wine bar in the Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre in Elephant & Castle. It's on the upper level, and faces onto Walworth Road. There is also a delicatessen elsewhere in the shopping centre. According to the restaurant's website and the Londonist review linked below, La Bodeguita is Columbian. In the restaurant itself, the description is widened to "Latin American", and the menu includes Argentine beef as well as Colombian and possibly other dishes. secretlondon first tried to visit on a Friday, but it was full. I returned on a Tuesday in November 2008 and had bandeja paisa (pork belly, rice, kidney beans, minced meat, sausage, fried egg, plantain, avocado, £10.40) photo, followed by arequipe con queso (caramel and home made cheese, £3.20) photo. I also had a bottle of Club Colombia beer (£2.50). Other drink options include draught San Miguel and Cruz Campo. They also sell jugs of drink. There were a couple of televisions showing football with the sound off and there was Latin American background music. Signs say they that do a special set lunch of soup, pasta and a soft drink for £6. There is a dress code on Friday and saturday nights — they may do a club night (it's a pretty big place). secretlondon's verdict: I enjoyed my food and would like to go back. Accessibility: Step-free access. Toilets on the same level. No handrails (and no toilet seats in the ladies).
