Brazilian restaurant in Kilburn. It was previously known as Barraco (pictured), but changed its name to Kaipiras in 2017. Despite its unpromising location on a back alley, this is quite a nice place for a drink or a meal. It's fairly small inside, with tables crowded in, though apparently there's a back room too that we didn't see. There are a few tables out the front as well, including a couple of picnic tables. Kake visited on a Wednesday lunchtime in July 2013. There were already four other customers when I arrived shortly after the opening time of noon. Rock music was playing inside, but as it was a nice day I decided to sit outside. I went for the moqueca, described on the menu as a "traditional fish stew made from coconut milk, peppers, palm oil, onions, garlic and spices". It comes with several choices of fish/seafood; I chose the mixed fish and prawns (£10 including rice) photo. A bottle of toasted cassava flour was provided to mix in and thicken the sauce. The flavours of the stew were pretty good, and the texture of the fish was great. The prawns were a nice size, but unfortunately although some of them were cooked perfectly, others were badly overcooked. The rice was a decent-sized portion, but undercooked to the point of crunchiness. I also had a glass of acerola juice photo, which had an interesting subtle flavour and wasn't particularly sweet (which to my mind is a good thing). Service was a little slow, but very friendly. According to their website as of July 2013, they have live music every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Kake's verdict: Despite the overcooked prawns and undercooked rice, I liked the overall experience enough that I'd be willing to give it another go. Accessibility: A step to get in. Two or three more steps (with no handrail) to get to the toilets.
