Pub and restaurant in Hampton, in the Good Beer Guide.

The front room is a traditional-style pub, while the back room is a dedicated restaurant area, with a completely different and more upmarket style of decor. The restaurant gives access to a patio garden at the back.

The bar area is relatively small, horseshoe-shaped and wrapped around the bar photo. An alcove at one end contains a bar billiards table, and a blackboard notes that this is "free to careful users". There are a couple of small tables out the front too.

Decor is traditional, with the usual patterned carpet on the floor. The walls are crammed with framed images including vintage photographs and cariacatures of various persons, presumably staff or regulars. A large collection of glass and ceramic jugs and tankards hangs on hooks along the dado rail which runs around all the walls, as well as another double row of hooks on the gantry above the bar. "Keep calm and carry on" cushions are set here and there on the church pew style seating.

A small bookcase of books sits next to the door, with half a dozen charity collection boxes on a shelf above photo. To the other side of the door a rack holds newspapers and magazines, and a shelving unit to the right of the bar has a selection of board games. A board on the wall gives names of the pub's licensees back to 1727.

Kake visited on a Friday afternoon in September 2013. There were a few other customers in when I arrived a little after 4pm, apparently all regulars. The radio was playing (talk and music), not too loud.

Five real ales were advertised on the pump clips: Greene King Revolver, Deuchars IPA. Young's Hummingbird (£1.80/half), Courage Best, and Hop Back Summer Lightning.

According to a sign seen in September 2013, there's a quiz at 9pm on the last Tuesday of the month.

Accessibility: Three steps to get in. Once you're in, it's step-free to the bar, seating area, restaurant area, and the ladies', gents', and accessible toilets. Not sure about access to the garden.
