Good Beer Guide pub near Charing Cross Station and the National Portrait Gallery, in Covent Garden.

The windows at the front are opened in nice weather to let the breeze and sunshine in. Six real ales on tap, all under £3 as far as I could tell. On Kake, Bob, Jakob and elvum's visit in August 2007 the beers available were Landlord (£2.90), Belhaven Fruit Beer (£2.90), Bateman's XXXB, Spitfire, and Harvey's Sussex Best.

The pub was very busy due no doubt to the proximity of Theatreland and Charing Cross. The upstairs room was closed for a private booking, so it might be better another time; it started to empty a bit after 7pm and we managed to claim a corner. Not a place to take a large group without a booking.

Ewan comments: On my visit March 2008, the ales were Harvey's Sussex Best Bitter, White Adder, Black Sheep and Landlord. It was packed downstairs at around 9:30pm on a Thursday but the small room upstairs had a very pleasant quiet ambience, with a couple of tables free, and it gradually emptied as the evening went on. Beers were well-kept, there were friendly staff and, although it doesn't look much from the outside, this is definitely one of the better pubs for this area, if you can find somewhere to sit or even stand.

The only food served is sausages in baguettes, but they're "award-winning" sausages, and they're served all day.
