A sandwich shop in Fitzrovia.

In an area filled with sandwich shops and cafes, H.T. Harris nevertheless manages to stand out from the competition by virtue of its excellent sandwiches and salads and is the sandwich shop to which Ewan returns most often (and I've tried most of the ones around these parts).

From the outside, it looks to be an independent business of some heritage, with its slightly peeling hand-painted signage, and is run by a jovial Italian family. There's a small and cramped sit-down cafe space, with a few tables outside as well. On weekday lunchtimes the place gets very full very quickly, and there is often a queue out the door which doesn't always seem to move very quickly, but it's well worth waiting.

The sandwiches are huge (as are the salads, if you are eating in) and more importantly, they aren't sparing with the fillings, so it can be quite a mission to actually eat them. The standard vegetarian option involves layers of aubergine, roasted vegetables and mozzarella, and they're happy to add in whatever else you might want (mushrooms, for example).

Prices are around £3.50-£4.50 for a sandwich.
