Excellent refitted pub with its own ales, located in Herne Hill and run by the Capital Pub Company.

The first thing to strike you about this pub is how large, open and spacious it feels. On a Friday evening after work, there are some people out the front and the extensive beer garden out the back is filled, and there are still plenty of available tables in the many rooms of this pub, all open and lightly coloured with plenty of natural light coming in.

The bar is set in the middle of the main room, with plenty of taps all with interesting beers. There are three ale pumps, two of which have the pub's own beers -- Bonobo and Weasel (£1.50/half and very tasty as well, the Weasel being lighter and a bit more sharp) -- as well as a third, which in May 2008 was Adnams Oyster stout. Other draught taps have Budvar and Budvar Dark, Birra Moretti, Erdinger, Maredsous Blonde and a couple of excellent Meantime beers.

Food is served until 10pm, with mains coming in at £7-£9, chips (with aioli) at £3, and vegetarian options clearly indicated in a different colour (green, obviously). There is an open kitchen at the back of one of the rooms near the beer garden. The food itself looks interesting, not just the usual pub options photo of menu. The vegetarian hotdog (£5) was a decent size with plenty of onions, and served with sauces photo.
