Nepalese restaurant on Old Kent Road which does takeaway and delivery.

The takeaway food is very tasty; the stir-fried fish with vegetables has a fantastic slightly smoky taste, and a perfect texture. The Aloo Tama ("Black-eyed beans, potatoes and bamboo shoots cooked with spices") is an interesting but very tasty combination of curry and beans. Even the side dishes are very good in and of themselves: both the fresh bhindi and fresh courgettes would have been fine main dishes; in general, vegetable dishes highlighted and made great use of the flavour and texture of the vegetables, rather than being some-random-vegetable-in-curry-sauce affairs. The lemon rice is worth trying just for the little bits of lemon rind found within.

Food took a while, but they phoned us to say that it would be slightly late, rather than keep us waiting. It was delivered by a very friendly chap who gave us free poppadoms and beer due to the order being over £30.

Bob says: The Nepalese dishes I had were very tasty and interesting. The keema naan was relatively standard. I got 2 free poppadums with my order. The pepper rice made a change from normal rice. I could taste the yoghurt in my main dish.

They also do standard Indian dishes.

You can order online from their website or just-eat.

Food eaten by doop and Kake, 22 September 2007. Details taken from the website.

Comment added by Kake: Tried this place again tonight, Weds 3 October: the soup of the day (£2.50) was a chicken noodle soup with spring onions. It smelt good on opening the package, but was disappointing; low on flavour and high on thickeners. The Nepali choila (£4), marinaded lamb on a bed of crispy rice (yes, Rice Krispy type stuff) was lovely; a nice contrast of textures, and some very good citrus/spice flavour in the lamb.

Comment added by Juliet: They seem to be generally pretty slow to deliver (up to an hr, or even just over) but it's worth the wait. Nothing like as greasy as other local delivery places, and more interesting veggie stuff. Fairly sure it's vegan-friendly as I've never felt unwell from it, but I haven't actually asked.

Comment added by Kake: 29 Feb 2008 - tonight's delivery was half an hour later than they'd advised me on the phone. No warning or apology. Salmon dish isn't bad but I'd probably not order it again as it was cooked more than I like.
