Mitchells and Butlers pub in Dulwich Village. It's part of their Metro Professionals sub-chain.

This is the only pub serving Dulwich Village, undoubtedly due to strict controls on development in this conservation area, being leafy, genteel and upper-middle-class. The Crown & Greyhound compensates by being extensive in size, with at least four different areas for drinking, still divided by old Victorian partitions, as well as a dining area and a large garden out back (as well as plenty of seating in the front). A large central bar extends in various directions to serve the disparate areas.

Decor is dominated by heavy wooden tables and wooden panelling, with a solid chunky bar. The place is well-kept and clean as you might expect from this area, and on a Summer's day the garden is particularly pleasant, extending quite far back with shelter and on several levels. On a June 2010 visit, an area to the side of the bar was designated as being for over-18s only, and had a TV in to show the World Cup (though it's not clear if this is a permanent fixture; reception was fairly patchy).

Service is friendly, and there's an extensive range of draught and handpulled beers and ciders available, including four handpulls with Harvey's Best, London Pride, Adnam's Broadside and one other guest ale (according to their website). Keg beers include Meantime London Pale Ale (£3.60/pint), Franziskaner, Pilsner Urquell (£3.60/pint), Sharp's Chalky's Bark, and many others. In Summer, they also offer sangria (in jugs), homemade lemonade (served by the glass, £1.80, with a pleasingly bitter taste) and other seasonal drinks.

Food is served noon-10pm Monday to Thursday, noon-11pm Friday and Saturday, and noon-9:30pm Sunday, with a carvery operating on the Sunday. The range is fairly standard for pubs (fish & chips, burgers, sandwiches and the like; the menu is downloadable on the website) menu p1 and p2 in June 2010, and includes a decent sharing plate (£13) photo with mini-burgers (three each of lamb and beef), plenty of flatbread and hummous, peppers and cucumber, and chips.

Quiz night is Sunday from 7pm.
