Pub in Clapton, in the Good Beer Guide.

This large single-room pub is dominated by its horseshoe bar. Sturdy bare floorboards are underfoot, and checkerboard tiles lead from the entrance around the bar. A flatscreen is mounted high in an unobtrusive corner. There are a few raised banquette areas, including one in a huge bay window looking onto the garden.

The garden itself is extensive, and includes a lawn area with deckchairs, a patio with picnic benches, and some nice little covered booths around the edge of another patio area (all sadly reserved on our visit).

Kake visited on a Sunday lunchtime in September 2014. There were a fair few people in at 1:30pm, most of them sitting in the garden to enjoy the good weather. At least half of the interior tables were set for diners, and at least one of these was reserved (and set for a dozen people). The flatscreen was switched off, but music was playing, somewhat louder than ideal for conversation. There was very much a middle class Sunday lunch ambience.

Five real ales were on offer: Signature Brew Session, Old Dairy Red Top, Truman's Swift, Redemption Hopspur, and Five Points Pale. A pint of lime and soda was £1.

According to a menu seen on this visit photo, food is served noon-9:30pm and includes bar snacks such as sausage rolls, devilled whitebait, and hummous & pitta as well as main meals. On our visit we were unable to try it as they weren't accepting any more orders "for at least 10 minutes" due to the kitchen already having too many tickets.

Accessibility: Two steps to get in, one tiny, one large. Step-free access from there to the garden and toilets.
