Good Beer Guide pub in Leyton.

It's a good example of a grand old street-corner pub with a high ceiling, stained glass detailing on the large windows, chandelier-style light fittings, and frosted glass privacy screens etched with a coach and horses design. Wooden boards on the floor give way to tiling around the horseshoe-shaped central bar. The bar itself is wood, and possibly original, with a brass footrail running around its base. Seating is a mix of upholstered banquettes and mismatched wooden chairs. Tables are also wood, each topped with a small vase containing a stem of real flowers.

From the main bar area, a large arched doorway leads to a back room with its own bar and a sign requesting customers to wait to be seated. Beyond this is a door out to a decent-sized part-covered courtyard beer garden, again with its own bar.

Kake visited on a Monday afternoon in September 2019. There were about half a dozen other customers when I arrived around 1:15pm. Retro music was playing, not too loud, and the aircon was on overdrive. Service was friendly and helpful, and they were careful to make sure I knew about their special offer of cask ale for £3/pint every Monday.

Two of the five handpumps were on, offering ELB Foundation (£2.30/half) and Sharp's Doom Bar. The Foundation was in good condition but served a little too cold for my taste.

According to the Coach & Horses website as of September 2019, food is served every day except Monday.

Child-friendliness: There's a baby changing table and nappy bin in the ladies' (gents' not checked).

Accessibility: A large step to get in (no handrail) at the side entrance, but there's only a small ridge (about an inch) at the front entrance. There are steps to the beer garden. No steps to the ladies' once you're in, and one of the cubicles has a door that opens outwards (gents' not checked).
