The Metropolitan Line is unusual among Tube lines.

Firstly, it has a number of stations which aren't in the usual Travelcard zones; instead, they're far enough out of London that they've been put in zones A, B, C, or D. You can still get there on Oyster Prepay, though, and I believe you can buy Travelcards which include these zones.

Secondly, at the Amersham end of the line, there is the concept of fast, semi-fast, and slow services; these are similar to the National Rail non-stopping and stopping services. (This doesn't usually happen on Tube lines.)

  • Fast services, which generally run to Amersham, are non-stop between Wembley Park (or Finchley Road at peak times) and Harrow-on-the-Hill; and also between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Moor Park.
  • Semi-fast services, which generally run to Watford, are non-stop between Wembley Park (or Finchley Road at peak times) and Harrow-on-the-Hill.
  • Slow services, which generally run to Watford, stop at all stations.

NB: I'm not entirely sure how the fast/semi-fast/slow services work in relation to the Uxbridge branch. The only stations which could be affected by different service patterns are Preston Road and Northwick Park (and Wembley Central at peak times); do all Uxbridge trains stop at these stations?

The Chesham spur is also interesting; service to Chesham is via a shuttle service from Chalfont and Latimer; a half-length Tube train (a single four-car unit) that just goes back and forth and back and forth around twice an hour.
