Historical version 10 of Cartoon Museum (view current version)

A warm and welcoming museum in Fitzrovia celebrating cartoon strips and comics over the ages. It was previously located on Little Russell Street in Bloomsbury photo, but moved to Wells Street in 2019, reopening to the public on 1 July.

We haven't yet visited the new location, so some of the details below may be out of date.

The museum has lots of comfy chairs throughout, and copies of the Beano to peruse. There is also a permanent exhibition of classic cartoons.

Past exhibitions have included a retrospective of Ronald Searle's work, including his St Trinian's and Molesworth illustrations. As well as a comprehensive show of his work since WWII, the exhibition featured a very good filmed interview.

Entrance is free for under-18s, Art Fund members, and Friends of the Cartoon Museum. For others, they offer concessions, and they also do a student multi-visit card valid for five visits over a year.

Bec's verdict: Friendly and fun for all ages!
