Modern Turkish restaurant in [[Locale Cockfosters|Cockfosters]], just across the road from [[Cockfosters Station|the station]]. It looks quite small from the outside, but the space stretches back a fair distance from the front, past a bar stacked with Havana Club and Chivas Regal boxes, a bread oven, and an open charcoal grill. The decor is shades of light grey and green, blending well with the natural-wood floor. Displays of decorative lanterns hang in picture frames on the wall, flanked by a mural of stylised wine bottles. Recessed spotlights in the ceiling provide sufficient light to make up for the lack of natural lighting. The seating is primarily free-standing chairs and tables, but there's a banquette along one wall near the front. All the meat is halal, and they have a separate gluten-free menu. [[Kake]] visited on a Thursday lunchtime in November 2017. There were a fair few people in when I arrived around 1pm, but plenty of free tables. Music was playing quietly. I decided to go for their lunch offer, which gets you a starter and a main (from a limited selection) for £10.90. A puffed-up ultra-thin flatbread was brought to the table as I sat down, sprinkled with sesame and nigella seeds and rosemary leaves, and served with a small dish of walnut-topped cream cheese <small>[https://www.flickr.com/photos/kake_pugh/23880611007/ photo]</small>. The bread was good, fresh and warm, and didn't appear on the bill. Beetroot tarator <small>[https://www.flickr.com/photos/kake_pugh/24871891118/ photo]</small> was good, a deep pink colour, with just the right amount of tartness. This came with more bread, thicker this time but also fresh and warm. Vegetarian pide ("Turkish pizza" topped with seasonal vegetables and hashar cheese) <small>[https://www.flickr.com/photos/kake_pugh/26968815419/ photo]</small> was OK. Perhaps I ordered badly, since I was getting a bit fed up of bread at this point in the meal, but I did feel that this wasn't as good as the bread that had arrived previously. There was a good balance of cheese to vegetables, but the "seasonal" vegetables weren't seasonal — there were mushrooms, aubergine, courgettes, and red peppers. The "shepherd salad" on the side was overly sharp, not helped by the use of some entirely flavourless tomatoes. Service was fine. Tap water was provided swiftly on request, flavoured with mint, lemon, and red berries. A 12.5% service charge was automatically added to the bill. Child-friendliness: They have at least one highchair, the wooden type with no tray and very little back support. There were two small children in during our vist. Accessibility: A step to get in. No steps to the toilets once you're in.
