River Ale House, SE10 0RJ

Micropub in Greenwich, in the Good Beer Guide.

It's a fairly typical micropub, situated in a converted shop on the corner of a terrace. Ales are listed both on a board above the bar and in plastic-pocketed menus on the tables, in the latter case with the addition of tasting notes.

Floor, high tables, high chairs, and high banquettes are all bare wood, and the walls are part-panelled with it too. Exposed brickwork further back adds a little variety. A small bar sits in one corner, with real ales and ciders served on gravity from a coolroom behind, and a short corridor next to this leads to a back room with more seating and the toilets.

Kake visited on a Friday afternoon in September 2019. There were three other customers when I arrived around 1:30pm, and several more turned up while I was there. No music was playing, and conversation was mostly quite subdued.

There were six real ales on: Tryst Drovers 80/- (£1.90/half), Kent KGB, Kent Key Lime Rye, Westerham Endeavour, Hambleton Nightmare Porter, and Brockley Summer XPA.

Kake's verdict: I wouldn't come back due to the lack of accessible seating, which is a shame since I liked it here otherwise.

Accessibility: No steps to get in, just a small ridge (less than an inch), but there's a step to the toilets (gents', ladies', and "ambulant", which according to a member of staff means the accessible one). All the seating is on high stools.
