Old Mill, SE18 1QG

Pub on Plumstead Common in Plumstead.

It's definitely old-school, with basic decor, a patterned carpet, varnished wooden tables, and a display of ceramic jugs hanging over the wood-panelled bar. A painting of the pub hangs on one wall, above a reproduction hand-drawn map showing "Places of Interest in Woolwich & Plumstead Circa 1950". Seating is a mix of banquettes and low stools, with a couple of higher stools along the bar as well. Out the back is a paved part-covered beer garden with picnic benches, and there's also a few picnic benches at the front with a partial view of the common.

When Kake and Ewan visited on a Friday afternoon in May 2019, the only other customers were a funeral party in the pub's function room. A talk show was playing on the radio. Service was very friendly, welcoming, and informative, and we were even given a tour of the old windmill that the pub was built around — now used for cellaring due to its thick, insulating walls.

The handpumps were clipped for six real ales: Ringwood Boon Doggle, Skinners Betty Stogs, Jennings Cocker Hoop, Hardy & Hanson Olde Trip, Courage Best, and Marston's Pedigree.

Posters indicate frequent live music and open mic nights.

According to a board outside in May 2019, food is served 1pm-6pm Mon and Wed, noon-7pm Thu-Sat, and noon-4pm Sun (no food on Tuesdays).

Accessibility: No steps to get in, and none to the toilets. A small step to the beer garden.
