Excellent cocktail bar hidden away on Poland Street in Soho.
From the outside there's very little to mark out this bar. An unassuming black door next to the Star & Garter pub, with an intercom with two buttons ('reception' and 'office'). Buzz in and you get ushered in to a modest reception room. Umbrellas can be left by the door, and coats can be taken behind the counter.
Annual membership is £350 (including membership to their sister bars -- The Player on Broadwick Street, The Club Room in Shoreditch, and bars in Chamonix and New York). However, non-members can make reservations for a two-hour block before 11pm, and the website recommends earlier in the week.
The atmosphere inside is muted, as expected. Comfortable leather banquettes, with smaller tables in the middle of the room. There are other rooms below, used at busier times and some are only available to members and large parties.
Waiter service will direct you to your table and take your order, usually showing up just in time for each new round of drinks.
There is little point reviewing each of the cocktails, as both the ones on their modest list and the ones they created off-list were all perfectly made and extremely tasty (even the low-alcohol "bitters hi ball"). They also have an extensive selection of wines and spirits, as well as a few bottled beers.
Food is served 7pm-2am Monday to Saturday.
