Category: Metropolitan Line

The Metropolitan Line is unusual among Tube lines.

Firstly, it has a number of stations which aren't in the usual Travelcard zones; instead, they're far enough out of London that they've been put in zones 7, 8, or 9. You can still get there on Oyster Prepay, though, and I believe you can buy Travelcards which include these zones.

Secondly, at the Amersham end of the line, there is the concept of fast, semi-fast, and slow services; these are similar to the National Rail non-stopping and stopping services. (This doesn't usually happen on Tube lines.)

  • Fast services, which generally run to Amersham, are non-stop between Wembley Park (or Finchley Road at peak times) and Harrow-on-the-Hill; and also between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Moor Park.
  • Semi-fast services, which generally run to Watford, are non-stop between Wembley Park (or Finchley Road at peak times) and Harrow-on-the-Hill.
  • Slow services, which generally run to Watford, stop at all stations.

The distinction between fast and slow trains is less important on the Uxbridge branch, though according to uk.transport.london there's at least one southbound train in the evening peak which runs fast from Harrow-on-the-Hill.
