A self-proclaimed "quirky" pub/bar in Clapham, one of the Mitchells & Butlers Castle pubs. The pursuit of quirkiness is evident in the decor, with lampshades festooned with feathers, and some very odd lighting going on towards the back.
Kake and Ben visited on a Wednesday afternoon in May 2009. There was one real ale available — London Pride, I think. They also had Westons cider. Ben had a lager of some kind — Sierra Nevada? Music was playing, though not overly loudly. Service was friendly enough, but sadly even though the place was almost empty they hadn't got around to cleaning the sticky, salt-strewn table we sat at.
There's a piano against one wall — we don't know if it's ever used. A selection of board games were piled up in a corner too. According to the interweb, there's also a back room with a pool table.
According to the Calf website as of May 2009, food is served 5pm-10pm Mon-Fri and noon-10pm Sat-Sun. They have a cheap specials menu, with everything priced at £5, changing weekly and served all day Monday to Friday photo of example menu.
A blackboard outside (May 2009) advertised a pub quiz on Mondays from 8pm.
Accessibility: One step to get in, and another step to get to the toilets.
