Randomness Guide to London - Differences between Version 5 and Version 2 of Monkhams, IG9 6LN

Version 5 Version 2

It's part of Greene King's Hungry Horse sub-brand, and the decor is fairly standard for a pub chain. There's quite a variety of seating, including high chairs and tables, padded seating, and even a couple of booths with built-in mini TVs. There's a pool table at one end, in a section reserved for 18s-and-over. It also has outside seating both at the front and in an enclosed garden at the back.
It's quite big, with lots of standing room as well as chairs and tables, and it has some outside seating too. As of September 2008, they have no handpumps, so no cask ale, but they do have a couple of pool tables if that's your thing.

Kake first visited on a Tuesday afternoon in September 2008. There were a couple of other customers in, clearly regulars. Service was friendly enough. There was no real ale, so I had Strongbow (£1.40/half). Music was playing but not too loudly.

Kake visited again on a Thursday afternoon in March 2017. There were quite a few people in when I arrived around 2:30pm, some of them just finishing up lunch. Service was again friendly. Music was playing, not too loud.
Food is served noon-4pm and 6pm-9pm Tue-Sat, and noon-8pm Sunday (no food Monday), according to a sign seen in the pub in September 2008. Didn't get a look at the menu.

They'd installed three handpumps since my last visit, clipped for Old Speckled Hen, Abbot Ale, and Greene King IPA, but there were things in front of them on the bar and it wasn't clear whether they were in use. A pint of lime and soda was £1.60.
Accessibility: Ramp to get in the front door, but there was also a sign indicating a more accessible entrance round the side. Level access to bar, pool tables, toilets, and seating area once you're in (there are toilets upstairs as well, but there are both gents' and ladies' on the ground floor too).

Child-friendliness: Children appear to be very welcome, though possibly only if dining. They have a children's menu which includes separate sections for older and younger children, juice cocktails, and even baby food. There are several highchairs, though the type with no tray and very little back support. There's an enclosed garden at the back with grass and play equipment.

Accessibility: A ramp to get in, fairly steep at the end. Gents and ladies toilets are up a flight of stairs with a handrail only part of the way up, but there's an accessible toilet with baby change facilities on the ground floor with level access.

Pub in Buckhurst Hill, situated on the corner of Station Way and Buckhurst Way, near Roding Valley Station (make sure you come out of the main entrance of the station, not the smaller back entrance, and turn right on exiting the station).

It's quite big, with lots of standing room as well as chairs and tables, and it has some outside seating too. As of September 2008, they have no handpumps, so no cask ale, but they do have a couple of pool tables if that's your thing.
