Fairly traditional pub near Trafalgar Square.
As a pub, this is nothing particularly special, though given its location in the heart of Theatreland, it manages to avoid attracting tourists. It does however get plenty of custom and gets fairly noisy downstairs. There's a smaller room for seating upstairs as well, which tends to be quieter, though it can be booked out for private functions so may not always be available. The music is a fairly poor selection (if you can hear it), though the wooden finish and candles give a pleasant enough ambience to the space.
On tap are London Pride, Youngs Bitter and Greene King IPA, as well as the usual lagers. There's a menu of Thai food, presumably sourced from the Thai restaurant next door. (Food is served noon-10pm, according to a blackboard spotted outside in April 2008.)
The actual name on the frontage is "Jack Beard's at the Lemon Tree". There are a few other pubs in London called "Jack Beard's at the X" - anyone know what this is all about? --Kake
