Idle Hour, W6 8NL

  • 171 Greyhound Road

Now closed; was a gastropub in the far south-east of Hammersmith, a little to the north of Lillie Road. Previously known as the Queens Arms, it was taken over in late 2009 by the owner of the Idle Hour in Barnes, and renamed to match. However, as of July 2012, Pubs Galore reports that it is closed and boarded up.

The information below is retained for people who want to know what it used to be like.

Gastropub in the far south-east of Hammersmith, a little to the north of Lillie Road. Previously known as the Queens Arms, it changed hands in late 2009, and as of December 2009 is now run by the owner of the Idle Hour in Barnes, and has been renamed to match.

It's very much a new-style pub rather than a traditional one, with tealights everywhere and at least one large leather sofa.

Kake, bob, and Dakkar visited on a Thursday evening in December 2009. Although the handpumps on the bar advertised both Adnams Bitter (£3.20/pint) and Harveys Sussex Best, the Adnams was so badly off that we could smell the vinegar without even tasting it; the barman took it back immediately and gave us Harveys instead, but he didn't turn the pump clip around as he should have done. We noted they also had Addlestones cider on.

Music was playing during our visit, fairly bland and just loud enough to not be ignorable.

Kake's verdict: We only came here because we were waiting for the Colton Arms to open, and this is probably the only reason I'd come here again — although the menu photo does look relatively interesting, the ambience and the beer failure were somewhat offputting.

Accessibility: Smallish step up to get in. Although there's an accessible toilet with a RADAR lock, on our December 2009 visit it had a sofa in front of the door. Other toilets are down a flight of stairs.
