Restaurant and bar near Covent Garden, serving modern British food. The owners also run the Anchor & Hope in Southwark.

The main room is fairly large, with cosy booths by the windows. The tables are wooden, decently-sized and not too close together. Downstairs is a separate bar area with armchairs and small tables, which is open until midnight, according to the website.

Kat visited with her parents on a Tuesday night in November 2015 after booking through TopTable (no phone confirmation was required). Early in the evening it was fairly empty but by 8.30pm it was full. The lighting was quite dim, with candles on the tables.

Bread and (good, salty) butter was provided straight away. A starter of salt cod with pickled guindillas (£7) came as quite a large portion; the cod was fine but the guindillas were a welcome note of spice to liven things up. For the main course we shared an enormous (and absolutely delicious) plate of slow-roasted lamb shoulder with dauphinoise potatoes (£48). The menu stated it was for 3 people to share, but there was enough meat to comfortably feed 4 hungry people (though the dauphinoise was definitely sized for 3). Thankfully the staff were happy to put the rest of it in a doggy bag for us to take home. We managed to share puddings (£7 each) of poached pear with chocolate sorbet (very rich) and marmalade tart (very filling).

The wine list looked pretty good, with several reds and whites available by the glass or carafe (a carafe of Gros Plant du Pays Nantais was £11). The bill came to £40/head including service and drinks, which seemed about right.

Kat's verdict: I'd definitely come back — the food was great and the service was friendly and helpful. The a la carte menu is on the expensive side but there are lunch deals available.

Accessibility: No step to get in but two sets of doors quite close together. Some of the seating is accessed via a small step. Toilets are down a flight of stairs with two turns, and a handrail.
