Restaurant in Clerkenwell serving Modern European cuisine with a focus on steak and cocktails. It's run by the same people as Hawksmoor, and there are other branches in Stoke Newington, Chiswick, and Balham.

Bec and Steve visited in December 2015. Steve had been warned that the best steaks are sent to the Hawksmoor but found his dry aged (35 days) ribeye (£23) to be excellent quality and well cooked. This was accompanied by bearnaise (£1), skin-on fries with herb salt (£3.50) and little gem salad with parmesan dressing (£4) — all rated very highly. Bec had poblano macaroni cheese (£10) — the peppers gave just the right amount of heat which didn't override the rich cheese sauce. Steamed greens (£3.50) felt like a necessary insertion of vegetables although certainly overpriced.

Puddings were also impressive — bourbon caramel sundae (£5.50) and black forest brownie (£6.50) were enjoyed greatly by both of us. The total bill, including a cocktail and two soft drinks plus a 12.5% tip, was £80.44.

Bec's verdict: A fine dining experience with excellent service, but as a vegetarian I am probably missing out on what the Foxlow does best.
