Locale: Ilford

Although Ilford is well within the Travelcard zones (its main station is Ilford Station, in zone 4), and has been part of the London Borough of Redbridge since 1965, many of its inhabitants consider it to be part of Essex rather than part of London. The major green space is Valentines Park, to the north of the area.

The retail centre of the area is focused around the High Road and High Street, which between them stretch from Ilford Station in the west to Seven Kings Station in the east. Pound shops abound (and at the time of writing are having some kind of price gouging war, with the "99p or less!" establishments vying with their "89p or less!" counterparts). The Exchange shopping centre at the Ilford Station end has your usual small-town shopping mall inhabitants, like the Body Shop and Woolworths.
