Fountain, KT3 6DD

  • 120 Malden Road

The Fountain was a pub in New Malden. According to the Aug/Sep 2018 London Drinker, it closed in June 2018 and there's a planning application to redevelop it into residential.

The information below is retained for historical purposes.

Pub in New Malden, part of the John Barras chain (Spirit Group).

Note: According to the Pubs Galore comments linked below, the Fountain was refurbished in spring/summer 2011 and the range of real ale was also expanded. We haven't visited since the refurb, so some of our comments below may be out of date.

Inside, it's one large L-shaped room, a little shabby-looking, with a patterned carpet on the floor and a few pillars to break up the space. Two pool tables and a dartboard are at one end, and an arcade game machine is tucked in beside the bar. There's a large garden out the back, including a covered smoking area. (The garden is used to host New Malden's yearly Korean food festival.)

Kake visited on a Thursday early evening in February 2011. Two real ales were on offer — Greene King IPA and Courage Best — but I didn't try either of them. A grapefruit juice was £1.54. Music was playing, nothing particularly interesting, and not loud enough to be annoying. There were quite a lot of people in at 5:30pm, but still plenty of spare tables.

Food is served: a poster seen in February 2011 advertised two meals for £7 all day every day.

Accessibility: Two or three steps to get in at both front entrances, but I saw a customer in a wheelchair so there may be a level entrance around the back. Once you're in, it's level access to the bar, seating area, and toilets. One of the toilets is specifically marked "disabled", and there's also one extra-large cubicle with grab bars in the ladies'.
